Triple National Basketball Association MVP Jokic suffered a "devastating" injury to his knee when the Nuggets were defeated 147-123 against the Miami Heat.

The Serbian center sustained the injury towards the end of the second quarter during an accidental coming together with team-mate Jones.

Jones came down on the footwear of the MVP, and he instantly collapsed to the court grabbing his leg.

The star, who leads the league this season in boards and dimes, posted a score of 21 points and eight assists in the matchup prior to suffering the injury.

The player is scheduled for an MRI on the following day to assess the seriousness of the injury.

"Immediately, Jokic understood something was wrong," said Denver coach David Adelman.

"Injuries are part of the game. Any player that suffers an injury, that's gut-wrenching, particularly a player as important as him. We'll find out more tomorrow."

"We will continue together. Clearly, at this moment, I am more worried just about Jokic personally and the frustration of experiencing an event like that."
