The President Welcomes Families of Attacked National Guard Soldiers to the White House
President Trump stated on the weekend that he has invited the family of a National Guard member tragically killed last week to visit the White House.
He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Devastating Incident
Soldier Beckstrom, 20, was killed in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her fellow service member, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across the state have been held in their memory.
Presidential Offer
The president explained he’s talked about a White House visit for the families of both soldiers of the state Guard.
“I stated: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize Sarah,” the president addressed reporters. “And similarly with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”
Community Reaction
Attendees assembled over the weekend at a local school in the state to remember Sarah.
Both she and Wolfe had been serving with the state guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist law enforcement in DC.
Paying Tribute to Beckstrom
“She was the type of pupil that teachers wished for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged those around her,” Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, informed the media. “She was caring, considerate and always eager to help others.”
Service plans for Beckstrom are yet to be finalized.
Judicial Measures and Government Changes
Authorities have accused a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of first-degree murder and two counts of assault with intent to kill while carrying a weapon.
The incident caused the administration to pause asylum processing and temporarily stop providing visas to possessors of passports from Afghanistan.
Condition of the Airman
Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, started his military career in 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, as reported by the news agency.
He is still undergoing care and is “battling to survive”, the state’s leader Morrisey mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer Pam Bondi stated on a news show that she aimed to meet with his relatives.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Sarah, from Summersville, completed her education from Webster County high school in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a MP with honor, per the West Virginia National Guard.
“She had a lot of kindness and she certainly had fortitude,” the governor addressed the audience at the service. “Though her life ended too soon, she has made an impact that’s going to last forever.”
