The Details Known About the Fatalities of the Bondi Beach Terrorist Incident
At least 16 lives were killed and over 40 were hurt when assailants opened fire at a Hanukkah celebration at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities have labeled a act of terrorism.
As of the newest reports, officials have stated the number of fatalities remains at 16, which includes one of the suspected attackers. Additionally, 42 people with injuries were admitted to hospital.
The deceased are yet to be formally identified, but investigators think their ages span from 10 and 87 years old.

Eli Schlanger
Originally from London clergyman Eli Schlanger, 41, was the first to be publicly identified.
Reportedly a father-of-five, he was the associate rabbi at a local Jewish cultural centre. Family members and acquaintances described him as “lively, dynamic, and vibrant and a very kind and sociable person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How can a joyful rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a relative remarked.
Schlanger and his wife had recently celebrated the birth of their newest son in October.
Alexander Kleytman
Alexander Kleytman also lost his life, according to his wife.
She recounted the moments leading up to the shooting, explaining they were standing when the shooting began. “He moved to protect me because he wanted to stay near me,” she said.
The couple were both survivors of the Holocaust, having endured immense hardship in their youth. They had later immigrated to Australia from Ukraine.
Dan Elkayam
French foreign ministry have confirmed that French national Dan Elkayam is among the dead.
In a statement, the Foreign Minister declared that France shared the grief of his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This cowardly attack is a new, tragic manifestation of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must eradicate,” the statement continued.
One Child
A 10-year-old girl who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, authorities stated.
One Israeli Citizen
A national of Israel was a fatality in the incident, as per multiple sources referencing the Israeli foreign ministry.
Those Injured
From the 42 people taken to hospital, many remain receiving treatment, with several in a critical state. The injured comprise two officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a member of the public who rushed to the scene to tackle one of the attackers. Described as a local hero, he received gunshot wounds but is recovering well in hospital.
Arsen Ostrovsky
One of those wounded is Arsen Ostrovsky, a public affairs professional. It has been reported he was wounded and is receiving treatment in hospital.
He wrote, he recounted the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also noted the actions of those who came to assist. He said he felt it was a “miracle” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was also injured in the shooting. He described he heard “a large number” of gunshots.
“I thought it was something less lethal, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he said. “I’ve been shot myself. I received first aid. I’m ok.”
