Slot Insists He Is Safe and Has Liverpool's Support Following PSV Eindhoven Humiliation
Arne Slot acknowledged that it was natural for questions to be raised about his position following another convincing loss versus PSV Eindhoven.
The Reds suffered their ninth loss in twelve matches, representing the club's poorest run since being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a tough evening at Anfield.
“I'm confident, things are alright, I have got a lot of support from the top,” the coach remarked.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory naturally but when you're coaching a team and underperforming then it's typical that questions are asked.”
He noted, “I accept my role. It is not the first time I’ve been in a challenging situation but it's necessary that we turned it around.”
Talks with The Board
When asked to elaborate on his discussions with the club's leadership, the head coach revealed:
“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and for me and those talks happen but they don't phone me all the time each day to say they have faith in me.”
He mentioned, “In the normal conversations we have I perceive the confidence. However I've not talked to them after this defeat yet so we'll see.”
Persistent Failings and Player Reaction
Slot highlighted known shortcomings from his Liverpool side in their Champions League defeat, namely missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was more direct in his assessment of the current crisis.
“I haven't got the answers. Honestly, I do not. I'm telling that to everybody,” the midfielder remarked.
“It’s just not good enough. I don’t even need to wait to think about it. I'm beyond feeling anger inside. I've reached the stage currently where I simply lack the phrases.”
He continued, “It's tough because I play for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”
“For many years, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase of this nature with outcomes so bad.”
He concluded, “But we continue to wear that badge on our chest. And as long as that badge is taken away, we will always battle.”
“We will attempt to bring this squad return to its rightful place, prove again the values of this club and why it's known as the greatest side in the planet.”
“At this moment, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
