Manchester United Set to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants
The Women's Super League club are on the verge of completing the signing for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.
A Major Signing for United
The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a prolific goalscorer for both club and country. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. Her arrival is viewed as a marquee coup for the WSL side.
Her exit from Bayern was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while thanking the German club’s fans after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.
It was reported in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was set to lose one of its top forwards. According to multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.
Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line
The 28-year-old’s arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to the team's attacking options. Schüller has been remarkably reliable in front of goal in Germany’s top flight.
- Over seven straight seasons, including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
- She won the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.
Gathering Momentum at Carrington
The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United seem to be building positive momentum.
Recent performances feature qualifying for the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the League Cup quarter-finals.
Off the pitch, the winter break has brought additional business:
- The acquisition of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
- The new deal for Japanese playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.
Regarding Miyazawa’s extension, a senior figure commented: “She has become a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”
Lundkvist, who has joined from a club in the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
