Antony Price, the groundbreaking UK-based designer responsible for a series of unforgettable images favored by David Bowie, Roxy Music, and Queen Camilla, has sadly died at the age of 80.

His reputation was built on his defined forms and theatrical styles, most notably the soft-colored suits that featured in the iconic band Duran Duran's seminal music video for "Rio".

"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the band released a statement on social media."

His passing follows shortly after he presented his most recent collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. The performer Lily Allen showcased a dress evoking the iconic black velvet "so-called 'revenge dress'" once worn by Princess Diana.

A Lasting Legacy

Hailing from Yorkshire, where he was born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to enroll at the renowned Royal College of Art.

Upon completing his studies, he started his work in men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was responsible for the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that Sir Mick Jagger famously wore during The Rolling Stones' Gimme Shelter tour in 1969.

He founded his own label in 1979 and held his debut runway presentation a year later. The show featured as its opener outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price designed for her for her marriage to Sir Mick Jagger.

Collaborations with Icons

A key creative partner of musical chameleon David Bowie, Price created the distinctive jacket the star wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.

His characteristic talent to merge tailoring for all genders along with his expert craftsmanship in designing body-hugging looks established him as a "true original," as stated by the British Fashion Council.

During the nineties, he commenced designing outfits for Camilla, now Queen Consort, including several ensembles for her American tour after assuming the title.

Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London recently in collaboration with the label 16Arlington.

  • Sculpted Silhouettes: Central to his design philosophy.
  • Theatrical Flair: Shaping the look of rock and pop.
  • Genre-Blending Design: Blurring lines between clothing for men and women.
  • Clients from Stage to Palace: From David Bowie and Mick Jagger to Queen Camilla.

Design circles says farewell to a authentic original whose influence on style and culture remains deeply ingrained.
