Brian Eno Urges Backing to Propel Together for Palestine Track to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The project seeks to send support to communities in Gaza while also highlighting Palestinian culture and creativity.
A Possibility for Unity and an "Chart Upset"
Musician and artist Brian Eno, who performs on the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an unlikely festive coup.
“It would be incredible if that happened, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, holiday tracks are a thing unto themselves.”
Resilient Spirit of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a cultural piece called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the track's powerful central theme.
“The song holds a profound significance for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would rather die in dignity than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we seek to lead a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Featured Artists
The single was laid down after a major charity concert held in late summer. First conceived to be performed and recorded live, the performance was shelved during the concert due to time constraints.
The notable list of artists contributing to Lullaby includes a range of well-known figures from the music world. All were part of the benefit event, which managed to collect a significant sum for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a team of music creators. The track features a fusion of the traditional Arabic lyrics with freshly written English words.
The organizers behind the project have emphasized that their objective is to generate maximum funds for a dedicated fund. These proceeds will be channeled to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We haven't set a fixed goal,” a figure explained. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Of course, the more the merrier. Every penny goes out to Gaza.”
The context in the area was characterized as its extreme devastation, with a overwhelming percentage of buildings reportedly destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a few million is unlikely to make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is primarily raising awareness for this issue and proving the human dimension of the story.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a full recording of the solidarity show will be made accessible to view on a digital service from mid-December.
